Unlike the main VOO calculator, which projects the future using an assumed growth rate you choose, this tool replays what actually happened in the past: your contributions compound month by month using each calendar year’s real historical return, one year after another, rather than a single constant assumption.

Why the results depend heavily on your dates

Backtests are sensitive to the exact start and end years you choose — starting right before a strong bull run or a sharp downturn can swing the result dramatically. Try shifting the start year by just a few years and watch how much the final balance changes. That sensitivity is itself a useful lesson: a backtest describes one specific historical path, not a guarantee of what any future period will look like.
